Why I retired
Paris was my peak. Throughout 2024 everything came out. I won my last competition, the Diamond League in Brussels. There was no injury and no forced farewell. I retired at a moment when everything was still possible. In the period after that I worked out who I was outside elite sport.
Why I am coming back
In March 2026 my son was born. A conversation with a doctor about elite sport and motherhood put the question back on the table. My answer is that it can be done, on terms that suit our family. During my pregnancy, my prosthesis became harder to wear in the third trimester. Details like that are part of this return and I write them down.

What is different now
My body is starting over
Since March there is Kay, and my body is no longer the one from 2024. I train for what it can handle now, not for what it did then.
Training around family life
Since early October I have been building up in a structured way at Eindhoven Atletiek, alongside Kay and my nutrition and dietetics studies. I only plan what I can actually deliver.
Readjusting the prosthesis
A body that changes also changes what the prosthesis has to do. I am having the fit and alignment reassessed by my prosthetist before I train at full speed.
The road to Los Angeles
Which competitions and qualifying standards count?
In principle every competition. I also need to race internationally, so I will go to at least one Para Athletics Grand Prix, together with my husband and Kay.
When will it be decided whether I start?
I can qualify until 31 May 2027.
What will I do if it doesn't work out?
That is not an option. It is going to work.
